As I was taking a visual inventory of my skincare products in my medicine cabinet yesterday, I started to think about what products I had and what I was missing in my arsenal (yes, i’m obsessed with products). As any skincare enthusiast might do, I decided to make a list of what I need now that the sun is starting to peak it’s face out from the clouds. As we all know, skin changes from season to season. Especially if you live in climates where there are drastic difference between summer and winter weather. Embrace the season!

Tip #1 - All moisturizers are not created equal! The weather this time of year (regardless of your locale) will wreak havoc on your skin! If you’re feeling that your skin is uber dry due to the colder air, and your summertime moisturizer is not making the cut, try a richer moisturizer like Facelogic’s Skin Perfecting Therapy to give you that added hydration.

Tip #2 - Less is best! Contrary to what you may think, loading on the moisturizer does not necessarily mean you’ll be more hydrated. Applying coat after coat of moisturizer will just end up in product waste. So, apply what is needed for your skin, usually about a dime-size amount in the morning and before you hit the pillow at night.

Tip #3 – Protect your skin! Just because you’re not out sunbathing and lunching with your girlfriends in sundresses and platforms, doesn’t mean that your skin is safe from sun damage. The colder, less visible winter sun can be just as damaging as the hot summer sun. Everyone should be wearing an SPF of at least 15 on a daily basis. Try Peter Thomas Roth’s Uber Dry Sunscreen SPF 30.

Tip #4 – Don’t over exfoliate! We know you love a good scrub as much as we do, but if your skin is really dry slow down on the peels,  scrubs and acid-based products which can strip the vital oils from your skin. It’s important that you exfoliate, but instead of doing so twice a week, switch to once a week or every ten days until the dryness subsides.

Tip #5 – Drink up! We know the myth that water doesn’t help make your skin look any better, BUT it does help with your overall health, so drink up this winter season! If it’s too cold to drink water, switch to green tea for some added antioxidants and flavor.

The season’s change in weather doesn’t have to ruin all of the holiday fun! Follow these 5 easy tips and you can say good-bye to dry, flaky skin until next year!

• Begin a daily at-home skincare routine – this is the easiest way to start seeing results. An at-home routine can be as easy as just washing your face and applying moisturizer in the AM and PM, or you can get much more advanced by incorporating vitamin C and anti-aging serums, exfoliation and eye treatments. Wherever you are with your skincare routine – make it a point to stick to it both in the AM and PM.
• Consult with an esthetician, nurse or doctor for more advanced treatments and products. Although you can achieve excellent results from at-home exfoliation treatments, seeking the professional exfoliation treatments (i.e. peels, microderm, LED) from a professional will give you your desired results quicker. At-home skincare work best when supplemented with professional treatments.
• Focus on eating healthier in order to achieve hydrated, glowing skin. We all know that eating poorly will show on your body, but it also will show on your face and in your skin. Poor diets that are made up mostly of junk food and lack vegetables and good fats can lead to dull, dehydrated, broken-out skin. Sticking to a well-balanced diet, full of antioxidants, vitamins and essential fatty acids will lead to better skin.

Discover mineral makeup

That’s what I was asking about a few years ago, until I tried it! Like many of you, I was constantly seeing the infomercials and ads for mineral this and mineral that and I just wasn’t ready to buy into the hype. At the time, most of the major mass market brands weren’t conforming to the mineral craze, so I didn’t need to either. Plus, I had a bathroom full of makeup, so I wasn’t ready to throw out years worth of investing just to jump on the new bandwagon.

However, after doing the research (reading up on minerals AND trying out products…the fun part) I am now a convert. So why is it so much better? There are a number of reasons, but most importantly, mineral makeup contains a number of minerals and vitamins so that not only are you wearing color on your face, but it is actually helping improve your skin, overall texture and complexion. Makeup that is good for you…i’m in!

With most non-mineral makeup, the foundations do a great job covering imperfections, but that’s where the makeup stops. It is merely sitting on the skin as a mask instead of actually acting to treat the skin. Typically, mineral makeup is free of chemical dyes, perfumes and talc which means it’s good for sensitive skin, including those with acne or roscea. I’m really into products that can treat on a number of levels, and makeup that is good for you is one of the best things i’ve come across in awhile.

Skincare made easy!

We get asked this question all the time. How good can a $49 facial be? Is this just a mini teaser treatment? Is this a training facial?

We’ve heard them all. The truth is, we can’t vouch for other $49 facials, but we can vouch for our $49 facials at Facelogic. And let me tell you, they are good!

Our skin-savvy facial enthusiasts and die-hard Facelogic Spa customers will tell you, while the price tag might appear to be cheap, or at least cheaper than the typical $80++ facial down the street, our facials can hang with the best of ‘em. Our goal is that everyone, yes everyone, is educated about the importance of skincare and that spas and regular treatments can be accessible to more than just the rich and famous. That’s why we’re not charging an arm and a leg.

But I digress. Now back to your question, what’s in this facial? Everything that you might see at any other high-end spa, minus the price! Our $49 facials offer our guests 50 minutes of relaxation, rejuvenation and results! Guests enjoy a one-on-one skincare consultation with a licensed esthetician (we call them skincare therapists), deep cleansing, steam, extractions, exfoliation and mask treatments. And, BONUS, during the ‘masking’  portion of the facial, our guests enjoy an extensive therapeutic upper body massage. It’s kind of like a 2 for 1 treatment!

We’re focused on results and consistency. Our contemporary, intimate setting is equipped with highly-trained skincare experts who focus on skin day-in and day-out. With our extensive product selection and variety of targeted skincare treatments, if you’ve got a skincare need, chances are we’ve got the answer.

While we might not all have time and money these days for vacations, spa days or luxury items like we used to, I’d highly advise that if you need a little R&R, check out your local Facelogic Spa.
