Depending on where you reside…spring is just around the corner! Springtime – my favorite time of year – the season to start anew. What better place to start than with your beauty routine? A healthy diet can lead to great skin!

You know how the old saying goes…but did you know that eating well and maintaining a healthy lifestyle can lead to better skin? Better put down that bacon cheeseburger! It’s not that you can’t splurge (because I certainly do ), but a well-balanced diet consisting of the adequate amount of vitamins, minerals and proteins is essential to an overall healthy body and healthy looking skin.

While there are many skincare myths linked to certain foods, it basically holds true that if your diet is grossly deficient in certain elements, then the skin can develop problems. So what are some foods you should you look to incorporate into your diet?

- Vitamin A is essential for maintaining a healthy glow.  Incorporating foods rich in Vitamin A like carrots, broccoli and milk will help to protect your skin from the effects of aging and the environment.

- Fish are a great source of Omega-3 fatty acids which appear to have anti-inflammatory properties that have been linked in studies to the prevention of skin aging. Generally fatty fish such as mackerel, salmon, sardines, lake trout, and herring have the highest quantity of skin enhancing omega-3 fatty acids.

- Vitamin E is an antioxidant that helps slow the aging process and promote great skin. Foods such as hazelnuts and almonds contain a high amount of Vitamin E and are great snack options when you’re on the run.

Maintaining a healthy diet and an active lifestyle will assist you in getting great skin. Crash diets, smoking, consuming too much alcohol and high-levels of stress can lead to skin that is dull, broken out and lacks elasticity. Discover mineral makeup

That’s what I was asking about a few years ago, until I tried it! Like many of you, I was constantly seeing the infomercials and ads for mineral this and mineral that and I just wasn’t ready to buy into the hype. At the time, most of the major mass market brands weren’t conforming to the mineral craze, so I didn’t need to either. Plus, I had a bathroom full of makeup, so I wasn’t ready to throw out years worth of investing just to jump on the new bandwagon.

However, after doing the research (reading up on minerals AND trying out products…the fun part) I am now a convert. So why is it so much better? There are a number of reasons, but most importantly, mineral makeup contains a number of minerals and vitamins so that not only are you wearing color on your face, but it is actually helping improve your skin, overall texture and complexion. Makeup that is good for you…i’m in!

With most non-mineral makeup, the foundations do a great job covering imperfections, but that’s where the makeup stops. It is merely sitting on the skin as a mask instead of actually acting to treat the skin. Typically, mineral makeup is free of chemical dyes, perfumes and talc which means it’s good for sensitive skin, including those with acne or roscea. I’m really into products that can treat on a number of levels, and makeup that is good for you is one of the best things i’ve come across in awhile.
