As I was taking a visual inventory of my skincare products in my medicine cabinet yesterday, I started to think about what products I had and what I was missing in my arsenal (yes, i’m obsessed with products). As any skincare enthusiast might do, I decided to make a list of what I need now that the sun is starting to peak it’s face out from the clouds. As we all know, skin changes from season to season. Especially if you live in climates where there are drastic difference between summer and winter weather. Skin typically becomes more dry and flaky during the colder winter months, and the natural oils start to appear more so in the summer months.

Whether or not you watched last night’s 82nd Annual Academy Awards, unless you live under a rock, you have most likely seen a celebrity or two in your life via the internet or gossip magazines. We’re award show junkies at Facelogic and we love to check in and see how beautiful the stars look at every event! What’s the secret to looking beautiful as you age? Keeping your skin in shape! While you can opt for (and many stars do) less natural treatments involving injections, there are many less expensive/less invasive options that will certainly do the trick. Celebrities have to look camera-ready at all times and they do this by getting regular facials and exfoliation treatments and sticking to a good skincare routine and healthy diet (plus they have some very talented makeup artists prepping them for these soirees).

Want to look like a star? There are plenty more affordable ways to get glowing, healthy skin on a budget! Here are some tricks to try at home:

- Incorporate exfoliation treatments - exfoliation treatments help to slough off dead surface skin cells and make way for brighter, new skin to shine through. Depending on your skin, you can exfoliate 2 to 3 times per week.

- Moisturize and protect – hydrated skin will give off a more dewy-supple look and adding SPF to your skincare routine everyday will ensure that you are fending off the sun and protecting yourselves from sun damage (which leads to fine lines and wrinkles).

- Add a little color - whether or not you are going to the grocery store or for an evening out, adding a touch of tinted moisturizer, foundation of powder will give you a more flawless complexion and make you look awake. Plus when you throw in a bit of mascara and blush, you’ll be looking ‘ready to go’ in no time and these 3 products will take under 3 minutes to apply!

There are plenty of skincare tips that the stars use to always look great, but routine skincare (starting with washing your face daily) is the best place to start. The more you focus on exfoliating, hydrating and protecting your skin, the longer you can fend off the signs of aging.

Embrace the season!

Tip #1 - All moisturizers are not created equal! The weather this time of year (regardless of your locale) will wreak havoc on your skin! If you’re feeling that your skin is uber dry due to the colder air, and your summertime moisturizer is not making the cut, try a richer moisturizer like Facelogic’s Skin Perfecting Therapy to give you that added hydration.

Tip #2 - Less is best! Contrary to what you may think, loading on the moisturizer does not necessarily mean you’ll be more hydrated. Applying coat after coat of moisturizer will just end up in product waste. So, apply what is needed for your skin, usually about a dime-size amount in the morning and before you hit the pillow at night.

Tip #3 – Protect your skin! Just because you’re not out sunbathing and lunching with your girlfriends in sundresses and platforms, doesn’t mean that your skin is safe from sun damage. The colder, less visible winter sun can be just as damaging as the hot summer sun. Everyone should be wearing an SPF of at least 15 on a daily basis. Try Peter Thomas Roth’s Uber Dry Sunscreen SPF 30.

Tip #4 – Don’t over exfoliate! We know you love a good scrub as much as we do, but if your skin is really dry slow down on the peels,  scrubs and acid-based products which can strip the vital oils from your skin. It’s important that you exfoliate, but instead of doing so twice a week, switch to once a week or every ten days until the dryness subsides.

Tip #5 – Drink up! We know the myth that water doesn’t help make your skin look any better, BUT it does help with your overall health, so drink up this winter season! If it’s too cold to drink water, switch to green tea for some added antioxidants and flavor.

• Begin a daily at-home skincare routine – this is the easiest way to start seeing results. Wherever you are with your skincare routine – make it a point to stick to it both in the AM and PM.

Although you can achieve excellent results from at-home exfoliation treatments, seeking the professional exfoliation treatments (i.e. peels, microderm, LED) from a professional will give you your desired results quicker. At-home skincare work best when supplemented with professional treatments.
• Focus on eating healthier in order to achieve hydrated, glowing skin. We all know that eating poorly will show on your body, but it also will show on your face and in your skin. Poor diets that are made up mostly of junk food and lack vegetables and good fats can lead to dull, dehydrated, broken-out skin. Sticking to a well-balanced diet, full of antioxidants, vitamins and essential fatty acids will lead to better skin.
