Protect your skin from the sun, or you could end up like this!

Protect your skin from the sun, or you could end up like this!

Just because the temps have started to drop doesn’t mean you have to lose that summer glow. If the porcelain look isn’t your thing, even though you are naturally fair-skinned, you can still have a beautiful bronze year-round without sacrificing your skin.  At Facelogic Spa, we love skin in all shades, but there is one shade we don’t encourage or enjoy seeing and that is sun-tanned/burnt skin.

We encourage routine skincare and services in order to reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, pigmentation and improve skin texture and tone. And when your skin is exposed to UVA and UVB rays, the resulting tan (or burn) is the body’s desperate attempt to protect itself from the sun’s harmful rays. UVA and UVB rays are the number one cause of fine lines and wrinkles, collagen breakdown, hyperpigmentation and in many cases, skin cancer. So all of your facials and skin maintenance prove futile when you bake in the sun all day or even lay in a tanning bed for a few minutes.

So how do you get that bronzed Giselle-look without the damaging long term effects? We’ve got some great products that you should try:

  • Celebrity favorite, Xen-Tan’s extensive array of sunless tanning products are a must-try product if you want a natural instant tan. Our favorite product is Xen-Tan’s Deep Bronze Luxe, it’s paraben-free, fast drying and will give you a gorgeous tan for about a week!
  • For a short-term bronze, try gloMineral’s gloBody Bronzer. It’s great for an overall bronzing glow or a night out on the town. Plus it’s not permanent, so if you only want one night of tan, it washes off with soap.

With all of the great sunless tanning products on the market including some of our favorites at Facelogic Spas, there is no reason to bake in the sun or the tanning bed anymore. We’re all trying to look younger and have great skin, so there is no reason to jeopardize your complexion by tanning!

Remember, SPF 15 or higher should be worn at all times (even when you’re just going to the grocery store), if you need a bit of natural daily Vitamin D, get your 10 minutes of sun exposure at non peak times before 9:30 am and after 4:00 pm…and embrace your natural complexion! Porcelain is beautiful! If you need a bit of bronze for an event or for your everyday look, try some of these products.

The quick and easy skincare routine

Monday, September 28th, 2009

We get it, not everybody has an abundance of time for a fully dramatic daily skincare ritual. However, you can get good looking skin without too much hassle.  Here’s some quick tips for what you should be doing to care for your skin on a daily basis.

Step 1: Wash your face (AM and PM)! Cleansing is the most basic and important part of skincare, however many people skip this step because they are too tired or too lazy. Work in a morning and evening cleanse so you can start with a fresh, clean slate!

**Tip: if you shower every morning when you wake up, or every evening before going to bed, put your cleanser in your shower!

Step 2: Exfoliate (AM or PM not both!). Depending on your skin, you probably won’t exfoliate everyday. However, exfoliating is a great way to slough off the dead surface skin cells and exfoliation leads to a clearer, smoother and more radiant complexion.

**Tip: we recommend exfoliating with either a chemical exfoliant or mechanical exfoliant 2-4 times per week. Check with your skin care therapist for the best exfoliant for your skin type.

Step 3: Moisturize/Protect (AM and PM). Lastly, it’s important to follow your exfoliation with a mosturizer and SPF before going about your daily activities. Depending on your skin type, in the evening, you might want to try a moisturizer that is richer and targeted for night-time use to help protect and treat your skin through the night.

**Tip: look for an SPF with UVA and UVB (broad spectrum) protection with an SPF of at least 30 for your face. Use daily regardless of the weather outside.

These steps are easy, take about 4 minutes max, and can be done before getting your day started and before tucking yourself into bed :) . For those of you that can handle more ‘complicated’ and ‘extensive’ skincare routines, i’d highly suggest a few serum treatments (Vitamin C for example) to help protect and heal your skin throughout the day and night.

The more you actually do stay on your skincare routine, the better results you’ll see in your skin! Talk to your skincare therapist for recommendations on the best products and ingredients for your skin.
